Reserve Your SpotWhy Trauma-Informed Assessments Matter
Many practitioners are expected to assess trauma, risk, and well-being, yet the tools available often feel clinical, rigid, and problem-focused. They can be difficult to use when practitioners are holding complex personal stories.
When assessments feel unsafe or overwhelming, clients may withdraw, and practitioners can feel unsure how to respond.
The Trauma-Informed Practice™ Assessment Training & Certification introduces a different approach.
Using the TIWSA™ framework, practitioners learn how to explore trauma safely while also recognising resilience, strengths, and support systems.
The TIWSA™ Framework

The Trauma-Informed Wellbeing & Safety Assessment (TIWSA)™ integrates two widely recognised trauma-informed frameworks:
ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences)
Reframed using trauma-sensitive language so practitioners can explore early life experiences safely and respectfully.
SAMHSA’s 6 Principles of Trauma-Informed Care
Applied in practical ways that emphasise safety, collaboration, empowerment, cultural awareness, and trust.
Together, these frameworks create a holistic understanding of both vulnerability and resilience, helping practitioners better understand what may be influencing a person’s well-being today.
Through the TIWSA™ approach, practitioners can:
✔ Explore trauma influences without retraumatisation
✔ Recognise protective factors and resilience
✔ Support reflection and deeper understanding
✔ Identify safe next steps and support pathways

Why TIWSA™ Is Different?
The TIWSA™ framework is more than an assessment tool; it provides a foundation for trauma-informed conversations.
It supports practitioners to:
- Slow down and stay present during sensitive conversations
- Work with the whole person, not just symptoms or history
- Hold trauma and resilience together safely
- Build stronger trust and connection with clients
As trauma-informed practice reminds us:
“Safety is not the absence of threat; it is the presence of connection.”
